The Firehouse Shelter

Founded in 1983, Firehouse Ministries operates the broadest, most comprehensive continuum of services for men experiencing chronic homelessness in Birmingham and surrounding areas. We offer four daily meals, employment readiness workshops, literacy skills, life training skills, and a clothing closet to approximately 3,000 of our city’s chronically homeless individuals annually. Firehouse Ministries provides housing for homeless men throughout the city of Birmingham, including permanent supportive housing to men with serious mental illness. Additionally, we offer a day program wherein any person can come to the shelter for a meal, hygiene items, and clean clothing. Firehouse is the only shelter in Alabama to offer a medical respite program for homeless men who aren’t sick enough to be hospitalized but too sick to live on the street.
