2nd Annual RUN GARDENDALE TURKEY TROT Sports Record Turnout and Donations Collected

150 runners woke up early Thanksgiving Day to start their day off with a 3-5 mile jog in a fun run to support Good Shepherd Lutheran Church/Gardendale and The Firehouse Shelter in downtown Birmingham. In lieu of entry fee, runners could bring a donation of warm weather clothing (jackets, long johns, gloves, hats, thermal socks, etc).

The 150 runners doubled the 2013 crowd and a total of 332 winter clothing items were collected and brought to The Firehouse Shelter. 227 pairs of socks, 39 winter jackets, 34 pairs of long johns, 24 pairs of gloves, 4 toboggans and 4 pairs of jeans were received and will be given out over the next few weeks to the homeless men of Birmingham who visit The Firehouse Shelter's clothes closet headed up by long time volunteer Pam Cato.

Jay Beard, GM of Buffalo Wild Wings/Gardendale, opened up his doors for all runners this morning, ran in the race himself and continues his winning ways to keep BWW actively involved the Gadrendale and metro Birmingham community volunteer scene. Davy Crockett of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church/Gardendale was the race organizer. Please thank both Jay and Davy as well as any member of the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church for their long standing support of ministering to the homeless men living in our midst.
