INCREASED DONATIONS TO THE SHELTER DEFYING NATIONAL TRENDS
Posted by Kelly Wallace on 11/26/2012
Defying national trends in philanthropic giving, The Firehouse Shelter has seen a dramatic increase in the number of donors and the total amount of dollars donated since the beginning of the year. For the 9 month reporting period from January-September, the Shelter has recorded 527 donations - up from 161 donations for the same time period in 2011. THAT'S A WHOPPING 327% INCREASE!
In addition, the total dollars donated has increased from $18,112 in 2011 to $60,481 through September 2012. THAT'S AN INCREDIBLE 334% INCREASE!
With Federal funding declining at all levels in recent years the need for private sources of income has become even more vital to maintain the Shelter's many programs. The Firehouse Shelter is grateful for the many individuals, corporations and foundations that have responded to our appeals for help by making a first time gift and/or increasing the size of their donations.
We have been working extremely hard to get our life-transforming message out about our ever-expanding mission and the need for our community to step up to the plate to demonstrate their faith with their giving. Help us spread the word about meeting the immediate and long-term needs of Birmingham's homeless by encouraging a friend to volunteer, to utilize their talents to bring hope where there is none, and to give financially if they are able.
